Our group, which consisted of Riley, Marcella, Christina, and myself, was assigned to research and present on the design element color and the design principle emphasis. At the end of the project, we summarized our findings, which can be read below, and submitted it to our professor.

When we started the project, we thought we were knowledgeable about color and emphasis in design, but as we researched we began to learn more about them. We learned about the intricacy of color such as hue, value and saturation and the psychological importance of color. For example, we learned that white is a common representation of innocence, and green for health, which gives us an idea about how marketing works. This was evident from the different ads we found and studied and incorporated into our presentation. Color has a psychological effect on individuals and can persuade them to make certain decisions when exposed. Therefore, we learned the vast impact and importance of color.

For emphasis, we learned the different ways to incorporate emphasis and the techniques behind utilizing them. Some techniques included are contrast, isolation, and repetition. People use emphasis in order to bring forth the exact object and message they are trying to portray, which also can be tied into marketing strategies. Not only is it strategic, but it also appealing to the audience. This project helped us learn more in depth about these two important aspects of design. Without them, a design would lack appeal, and it would more difficult to portray a particular message. Color and emphasis are two powerful aspects of design and this project helped us understand that.
