When I think of art festival, I think of an audience comprised of mainly women and kids/grandkids that are brought along with them. So, I made the visual element (formerly a regular silhouette clipart) a female, supposedly an older one as suggested by the hat, and with the help of text-on-a-path, implemented the festival name and how many years it has been running, which is definitely something to have pride in. This art could be replicable for t-shirts, bags, etc., which is what the client requested. I chose the art to be in the scarlet color, because it’s the boldest color of the three in the palette, which would make it pop.The colors are also attractive, I think, because they are not too soft or too bold to the far or close eye. They are reminiscent of summertime (the festival takes place in the summer) and the beach (blue = ocean, sky; mint = seaweed; red = bathing suits, towels, etc.), which is appropriate, since the festival is in Laguna Beach. Also it may just be me, but the color red seems to be oftentimes connected to art, which is why I used a good bit of it for this art festival advertisement.

INDESIGN

For this design, I used a bright, bold color palette, because it would “brighten” up any room the calendar is placed in, it is more attractive to the eye, and it makes the calendar generally more “happy”. The Humane Society is an organization that is excited to help animals, so I decided to make their calendar bold, bright, and exciting. Here, the client requested free images, which were used, coupons, which were implemented, and a wide array of featured animals, which was executed. I decided to feature a rabbit and a dog, because according to the Humane Society’s website, there are three distinct categories of animals their help and money goes toward – pet, farm, and wildlife. In terms of colors, I picked colors that complimented the picture’s featured “habitat” – green for grass and pink for roses. Lastly, with each featured animal, a speech bubble was placed alongside them with short-but-sweet reminder about adoption and donation – both of which are heavily encouraged by the Humane Society.
